Deep in the heartlands of the African continent lies Zambia. Named after the Zambezi, the fourth biggest river in Africa, it’s a hidden treasure that boasts an abundance of unspoilt wilderness and remarkably diverse wildlife.
Relatively unexplored and embodying the space and beauty of primeval Africa, Zambia is an ideal destination for adventure seekers who are keen to explore ‘real Africa’ without compromising on luxury. If you are seeking a pristine Africa of old, there is nowhere like the unique Liuwa Plains. An immense wilderness of open grasslands blooming with wildflowers, it’s home to the third-largest migration of wildebeest in Africa. Here you are surrounded by endless skies and completely flat terrain stretching into the distance, with no one but the magnificent wildlife and birds for company.
Highlights of a Luxury Zambia Safari
"We can ensure your trip to Zambia is nothing short of spectacular - providing richer experiences and an extra layer of depth to your adventures."
The Luangwa Valley in the northeast of Zambia is one of the best areas for walking safaris in Zambia. Walks range from one to several days and are led by some of the finest guides in Africa. Visit during the dazzling Emerald Season when the Luangwa River flows over into brimming lagoons and flooded ebony groves and you can reach areas by boat that are normally inaccessible the rest of the year. South Luangwa National Park is another location where wildlife lovers keen to see leopard will find some excellent opportunities to glimpse these regal predators.
Other locations across the country that are worth exploring include the Busanga Plains with its astonishing birdlife and herds of wildebeest and zebra. Furthermore, the Bangweulu Wetlands in northeastern Zambia – one of Africa’s most astounding wildlife secrets – is a unique ecosystem that is home to over 400 bird species including the rare shoebill stork and over 100,000 black lechwe. Explore the wetlands by boat accompanied by an expert local guide who can point out rare species whilst you glide along absorbing the beauty of the surrounding scenery.
Another unmissable highlight is the mighty Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Located in Livingstone on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe, the area is known as the ‘adventure capital’ of Africa, for its thrilling adrenaline-inducing activities including white-water rafting and helicopter flights over the thundering waterfall. For a taste of culture, visit a traditional village and watch skilled artisans create beautiful handcrafted items. Enjoy exchanges with indigenous people of the region learning about their fascinating history and customs.
We can ensure your trip to Zambia is nothing short of spectacular – providing richer experiences and an extra layer of depth to your adventures. Take a leopard safari across the Lower Zambezi National Park with a leading conservationist for unparalleled insights into their behaviour. Stay at one of the lodges and unique safari camps in the Busanga Plains and embark on a silent electric safari or opt to walk camp to camp in South Luangwa and fly camp under the breathtaking Zambian night sky.
Choosing when to visit is very much dependent on the regions you are keen to explore, the time of the year for your travels and the wildlife that you wish to find. Our favourite time to visit South Luangwa for example is during the Emerald Season (from November through to May) when the flowers are blooming, the animals are calving and there are very few tourists. However, many first-time safari-goers opt to visit during the dry season from June to October.
