Nicola Shepherd
Nicola was born in Calcutta, India, where she spent the first part of her life before moving to Kenya and South Africa with her family. She studied nature conservation in South Africa before moving to Botswana, where she assisted in the running of camps in the Okavango Delta for several years. In Namibia, she was involved in community projects in the Caprivi Strip region and was part of an AIDS awareness campaign.
Moving to the UK, Nicola founded African Explorations (which would eventually become the Explorations Company) in the Cotswolds. She spends several months every year travelling, researching new properties and finding philanthropic projects that the Explorations Company and our clients can support. Acknowledging her expertise, she was made a Judge for the Good Safari Guide, which recognises the finest safari lodges and camps in Africa.
Some of her favourite travel experiences so far include fly-camping in Katavi National Park, going out with elephant researchers in Samburu as part of Dr Iain Douglas-Hamilton’s Save The Elephant Foundation and viewing tiger in Kanha and Pench national parks in India’s Madhya Pradesh.
