A typical family holiday to Kerala could begin in Kochi, known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, where you could explore the harbour area with its huge ‘Chinese’ fishing nets. Drive up to the hill-station of Munnar in the Cardamom Hills, and spend a couple of days exploring tea plantations and shola forest, with a night at a village home-stay. You can even over-night in a treehouse!
Driving across the Western Ghats, you can visit the tiger reserve at Periyar for tiger safaris and enjoy wildlife-spotting in this beautiful park, both from a boat on the lake and on foot. There will also be the chance to take a ride on elephant-back or bathe an elephant.
Then we have a lovely house on a rubber plantation, where you can watch the rubber being extracted from the trees, spend the day with an elephant, bathing her, travel by ox-drawn cart through the villages, and mountain-bike.
Descending to the famous Keralan ‘backwaters’, you can have a free day at a lovely hotel beside Vembanadu Lake and also take an overnight cruise on a splendid houseboat. The perfect way to end your holiday would be to allow a few days for relaxation at Kovalam, at a charming and very laid-back beach resort. Such a luxury holiday in Kerala would offer an endless visual feast and will entertain and amaze the whole family.
